Shop Non-Sterile Disposable Gloves

disposable gloves for a variety of industries including a doctor, a mover, a chef and a cleaner.

Selecting the right personal protective equipment (PPE) for your staff is an important part of ensuring their safety in the work environment. Gloves can protect employees from hazardous materials and contaminated surfaces and protect patients and customers from contamination. Learning about the different types of gloves available is a great way to determine which gloves will work best for your intended application.

What’s The Difference Between Sterile and Non-Sterile Gloves?

One of the most important specifications to consider when selecting gloves is whether you need sterile or non-sterile gloves. While they may look similar in practice, there are several differences in the classification of these gloves that could make them more or less ideal for your intended use.

The primary difference between these types of gloves is their level of sterilization. Sterile gloves are sterilized by the manufacturer and must meet the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) standards for sterilization techniques. Non-sterile gloves, on the other hand, are not sterilized by the manufacturer.

All FDA approved gloves must be within an acceptable quality level (AQL) for pinholes. The AQL number is the percentage of gloves in a sample that will have pinholes and be unusable. The AQL for sterile gloves is only 1-1.5%. Non-sterile gloves are allowed an AQL of 1.5-2.5%.

Sterile gloves are intended for use in surgical procedures, laceration repairs and other circumstances where any impurities on the gloves could cause infection or other contaminations. For non-surgical procedures, exams and general use, non-sterile medical gloves are acceptable. Because of stringent sterilization procedures, AQL testing and special packing requirements, sterile gloves are often more expensive than non-sterile options.

Types of Non-Sterile Gloves

At SUNLINE Supply, we carry a variety of non-sterile glove options to help you meet safety standards and protect your employees. The three most popular glove materials are latex, nitrile and vinyl. While latex is an effective material for gloves, we don’t offer latex gloves because of the risk of allergic reactions.

Non-Sterile Nitrile Gloves

Nitrile gloves are a latex-free synthetic rubber glove option that provides extensive protection and puncture resistance. Only 1% of all users report any allergic reaction to these materials, making nitrile gloves the most popular option available. They are highly versatile and useful for almost every application, including non-surgical medical exams and procedures and any circumstances that require handling dangerous materials.

Non-Sterile Vinyl Gloves

Non-sterile vinyl gloves are often the least expensive option available. They are ideal for use in low-risk environments where employees are only handling non-hazardous materials, like in the food and beverage industry. SUNLINE Supply offers vinyl gloves constructed out of polyvinyl chloride material for a more comfortable fit.
